Capacity Building Training for Religious Leaders on Child Rights Bill and their Role in Advocacy on Child Protection and Child Rights Issues in Somalia.
Somalia Child Right Coalition has conducted two days capacity building training for religious leaders on child rights bill and their role in advocacy on child protection and child rights issues in Somalia. The training brought together 35 religious leaders, including imams, Qur’an teachers and religious scholars from different areas in Banadir region. The main objective of the training was to capacitate the religious leaders with child rights bill and to sensitize their role to serve as strong advocates on policies and programs regarding child well-being such as in the areas of health, education, child protection and child participation.
The training finally concluded with an advocacy action plan for religious leaders to conduct community awareness-raising and advocacy efforts should be intensified to promote the importance of child rights within Somali society. This can be achieved through partnerships with media representatives, religious leaders, and other influential figures who can help disseminate information and generate public support for the protection of children rights in Somalia.
