Mogadishu, Somalia | 30 September 2026 โ The Somali Child Rights Coalition (SCRC), with support from SOS Childrenโs Villages Somalia, successfully conducted a two-day training for members of the Community-Based Child Protection Networks (CBCPNs) on Child Protection, Safeguarding and Safe Referral.
The training was held on 29th โ30th September 2026 at Hayat Hotel, Mogadishu, Somalia, bringing together 30 CBCPN members, comprising 20 female and 10 male participants.
The training aimed to strengthen participantsโ knowledge, skills and practical capacity to identify child protection concerns, promote child safeguarding, and support safe and appropriate referral of children and families in need of assistance.
The training covered key areas including understanding child protection risks and concerns within communities, the roles and responsibilities of CBCPN members in child protection, child safeguarding principles and prevention of harm, identification of child protection concerns and warning signs, safe referral pathways and appropriate referral practices, confidentiality, informed consent and the best interests of the child, community-based prevention and response mechanisms, and strengthening coordination with service providers and relevant stakeholders.
Through group work, practical exercises, case scenarios and experience-sharing sessions, participants explored common child protection concerns affecting their communities and identified practical ways CBCPNs can contribute to prevention, early identification, safe referral and community-level response.
The training also provided an important platform for CBCPN members to strengthen collaboration, share community-level experiences and enhance their understanding of how to connect children and caregivers with appropriate services in a safe, confidential, respectful and non-discriminatory manner.
