Saturday, October 11, 2025 โ€“ A historic step forward for the protection and promotion of human rights in Somalia! The Federal Parliament has officially approved the establishment of the National Human Rights Commission, presented by the Minister of Family Affairs, Khadiija Mohamed Al Makhzoumi.

In a well-attended session, 142 Members of Parliament voted in favor, with one abstention and no opposition โ€” demonstrating a strong national commitment to advancing human rights.

Minister Khadiija Al Makhzoumi emphasized the importance of completing this vital process, noting that the international community has been eagerly awaiting this milestone as part of Somaliaโ€™s ongoing progress in upholding human rights. She also expressed her deep gratitude to Parliament for its overwhelming support.

The Somali Child Rights Coalition (SCRC) warmly welcomes and appreciates the Members of Parliament and the Government of Somalia for this remarkable achievement and their commitment to strengthening human rights institutions in the country.
